The Client

The British Chamber of Commerce in Spain has a brief to promote commercial links between companies in Spain and companies in the UK. Founded exactly 100 years ago in 1907, the Chamber has worked tirelessly to achieve its goals of creating, maintaining and extending business cooperation between its members and affiliates back home in Britain.

The Brief

Source23 has always been very active among the international business community in Barcelona, and so naturally we were very pleased to be asked to work with the British Chamber of Commerce in Spain and design and produce their annual Members Directory. This is a 128 page book with a distribution of around 6.000 copies that is sent to all members of the Chamber and can also be requested by non-members. Included in the book are articles relating to business in Spain and the UK, expert content written by members of the Chamber, advertising from members and other service providers and complete listings of all members in alphabetical order and again by activity sectors. Our brief was to come up with the design concepts for the book as a whole, manage the content and advertising, and liaise with members to ensure that all materials provided were correct and suitable for use.

The Solution

2007 is the third year that we have worked with the Chamber to produce the Members Directory, the previous editions being in 2004 and 2005 (in 2006 no directory was produced). Each year we begin by meeting with Chamber Directors to talk about our and their ideas for the Directory and how best to communicate the desired message to their Members.

When the basic brief has been outlined, we spend some time coming up with some layouts that are flexible enough to be adapted to handle varying amounts of content and fit in with the Members' advertising. Once the designs are signed off and agreed on, we begin to layout the pages of the book, at the same time working closely with the contributors and advertisers to ensure that the content and all important advertising is well placed and integrated into the overall layout.

The result is a 128 page book that is the British Chamber of Commerce's main contact point with all of its Members and we're very pleased to be working on the latest centenary 2007 edition.
